On Saturday, September 10th 2016, the Columbus Scottish Festival will host an MWPBA (Midwest Pipe Band Association) sanctioned Bagpipe Band and Solo contest! This is a very exciting honor for the 25th anniversary of CSF – the last official contest was held here in the early 1990s!
Solo piping will be offered from Practice Chanter (the melody part of the Great Highland Bagpipe) and Jr./Sr. Novice through Grade 1 in light music (marches, reels, etc.), and Piobaireachd (the classic bagpipe repertoire) in Grade 4 through 1.
Solo drumming will be offered for snare (Grade 4 through 1), tenor drum novice, intermediate, advanced), bass drum (novice, advanced), and Drum Major.
Full Band competitions for Grade 5 (Quick March Medley), Grade 4 (Medley) and Grade 3 (TBD) bands are also planned.
This late season event will be perfect for Bands and Soloists aiming to win some points to round off the 2016 Season.
Band and solo registrations are handled through the MWPBA website. All competition entrants should sign up on the MWPBA contest page.
Southern Indiana Pipes and Drums emerged in 2005, as a band of Merry Pipers and Drummers from the scattered corners of Indiana (and beyond). One of the largest bagpipe bands in the region, the active membership includes over 30 individuals ranging in age from 7 to 78 and in experience from fresh beginner to competition grade piper.
We are based in Covington, Indiana. We compete at several Highland Games throughout the Midwest every year. In 2013 we placed 1st at Springfield, IL and 3rd at the Midwest Pipe Band Championships in Chicago, IL. In 2014 Fountain Trust Pipe Band won Grade IV Champion Supreme.
We are also home to the four-time Champion Supreme Drum Major. Doug Weisheit is our winner of the last three consecutive championships. We are also proud to be led by Pipe Major Campbell White and Drum Sergeant John Carter.
We also perform at numerous locations in Indiana and Illinois for parades, festivals, and proud to perform at events like the Columbus Scottish Festival.
A ‘Best Band’ plaque will be awarded on Sunday. The award is sponsored by Celtic Corner.
In addition to the scheduled performances, individual pipers & drummers will be performing throughout the weekend at different times and locations (Kids Area, Sponsor Tent, Athletic Field, Beer tent, etc.)
